When applying for a job do your best to assess the company and using what you can find out about its culture and the field its in determine the better option. When is a second page OK and when will it help you get more interviews.
Regardless I do need to clarify that color is acceptable in small doses. Please dont go overboard using pictures in resumes it. Color on a resume can have either a good or bad impact at any of these steps.
